Dear Readers: Blount Today to close
I am from Blount County and live in Briarcliff. What does it matter that he won Blount County. He lost plain and simple? If it is such a crock of spin then how come Mike Dalton, former Blount County School Superintendent, has said repeatedly Doug is the one telling the truth about schools? Finney has even said that the formula was bad and he voted the wrong way. That of course was before he was running for office. To think this is one giant conspiracy against Finney is ludicrous.
StillRightChoice just wanted to make sure you were aware Finney did lose.
It did not include a teacher pay raise. It just changed the ratio the state is willing to pay for teacher sallaries.
Furthermore, how do you know Parton never contacted Senator Finney?
Agreed Vol Golfer! I don't see how Finney can call himself a man of character and then in the same breath compare his opponent to a Nazi. Right Choice if that is who you want representing you that is fine. I for one believe Finney’s Nazi comment sums up who and what he really is: a bitter and evil man. I do have one question for Right Choice. Doug and Ray share the same common sense conservative values: pro life, support 2nd amendment rights, pro family etc. I would like to know just what Ray Finney’s legislative accomplishments are. I am not talking about co-sponsoring a bill. What bills has Ray been the primary sponsor of during his time in the Senate that have made a difference and helped Tennesseans and his constituents here in the 8th district?
Why then would Finney sponsor a bill to ban coal mining since we don't have it in Blount County? I mean as if bestiality were not enough he is trying to ban something that is not even a part of his district.
Way to go Raymond! Great job! I can see now that your vote really didn't cost anyone. That no new tax pledge sure worked out well too. You have already broken it and the campaign isn't even over. I can sure see why you are a model legislator.
Where does Finney say he regrets his vote for BEP? Show me. I want substance from you not Finney did this or that. Show me a publication or some other source where he said he regrets his vote.
I couldn't agree more, Finney stood out because of how poor of a legislator he is. You make me laugh. Did you not see that video of him presenting bills. He continuously has to be asked to do something over or presents meaningless legislation that helps no one, i.e. bestiality, California emissions etc. I sent you the link to his quote about the schools you obviously didn’t read very well. Further, you made the statement “the school board members would have seen the money leave the district regardless of Finney's vote”. Like him you refuse to admit his vote was a mistake. It hurt the district when he sold out and voted for it instead of standing up for his constituents. He didn’t represent the people he was elected to support. Regardless of whether it would pass or not, a true leader says I’m going to stand up for my district because IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO! I'm not questioning Finney as a person. I'm just wondering why he always prevaricates on his record and votes he has made.
Actually, Finney is the one that said his vote didn't matter. Here are his words taken from Blount Today: “In the end, I voted for B.E.P. 2.0. It passed 32-to-1. My vote really didn’t matter." he then goes on to say it "It has not hurt anyone.”Tell that to school board members who have seen $13 million leave the district.

Next, your claim that you "Never heard Finney saying that the vote he regrets making has helped both counties." Well, these are his words from the League of Women Voters Forum: "BEP had five parts, four of which helped Blount County.”
Here is the link to that:http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2008/...
There is no spin to this they are his own words.
Why did he not deserve it? He voted for SJR127 every time it was brought up. Don't take my word for it look at the Tennessee Right to Life's website: http://www.tennesseerighttolife.org/n...
Don't just make a statement, back it up. Why did Overbey not deserve the endorsement he is 100% pro-life just the same as Finney.
Ok RightChoice explain this quote and tell me if this is what someone who truly cares about the community would say, "You can do ‘Ra-rah-rah’ things or work hard to improve the health of this community.” This is a slap in the face to anyone who does any nonprfit or community service work. They do this to help others and do it for nothing.
RightChoice-
"Overbey- Voted against authorization of the State to contribute more to local school districts for the cost of teachers salaries. HB2293"
You realize HB 2293 was Basic Education Plan 2.0. I know it is a hard concept to grasp because so much money was taken away from the young minds of Blount and Sevier counties and sent away to the big cities. I also have a hard time seeing how Finney or anyone for that matter would ay it was perfectly fine to vote for it. Basic math will let you know that if you have a severe budget shortfall, raising teacher pay really will not help. Wake up for a second and understand that Finney made a mistake. He has said it in news papers time and time again. Now that he is in a campaign setting he is backing away from it and saying it helped both counties. Give me a break.
As far as checking the facts, I think that is perfectly fine. However, in checking the facts I was able to find many things that changed my vote from Finney to Overbey. Finney is just not a good legislator. He calls any fact that makes him look bad a lie. He consistently leaves votes off of the finneyvotes.com. Check it for yourself and you will find no mention of BEP 2.0. There is plenty to say about Ray's record. The truth hurts at times and Ray is finding that out.
I'm sure Finney was close by! There are more Finney and Meares signs in the same yard around town than I care to count.
The Senator is not even a conservative. He waffles on the income tax, proposes legislation that would send energy costs to staggering highs, and is dishonest about his record and past statements. He is also the biggest hypocrite I have seen in quite a while. He claims to be a great Christian. However, he ignores anyone he feels is not a support. He will not speak to these people even if they address him. He routinely gives Overbey the cold shoulder even when, Doug tries to say "hello" and do what any Christian and GENTLEMAN would do when they see their opponent. Wake up and look at Finney's true colors, because actions speak louder than words.
I can't believe you would compare Finney to Ronald Reagan. That is quite possibly the most absurd statement you could make. Finney never helped the party before he needed it. He also totes a ridiculous left wing environmental agenda. He, and liberals like him, are responsible for these ridiculous and out of control gas prices. Finney also talks endlessly about what great character he has. Well, that is something others say about you, not something you say about yourself. Finney sounds more like an arrogant, closet liberal than a true conservative.
Yeah, Mr. Finney is a real conservative. He loves the party so much that he did absolutely nothing for it before he was elected. Until he needed the party, it was not worth his time. He never supported the party financially or offered his services in other ways such as working in the community on the party's behalf. If conservatism was in his blood why did he hide from it for all those years? Sounds a lot like John Kerry to me; say whatever you can to get elected and masquerade as something you are not.
