Written on Finney calls off recount, is ‘out of political campaigns forever’:

This man made us the laughing stock of the state with his inability to do anything of worth in Nashville. That is what wasn't good enough for the majority of voters. Thankfully, he is out of politics.

I wish former Sen. Finney the best for his future plans, but am certainly glad he is not representing me anymore.

Written on Overbey wins with strong showing in Sevier; Finney asking for recount:

That's just to bad for ole RightChoice. I guess their crazy theories just didn't pan out for them. Maybe they can just write a book that no one will read about it.

Exactly how mad will you be RightChoice for the next four years seeing Doug Overbey doing a wonderful job in the Senate? How angry are you that you have been wrong all along, and your false smears had zero impact on anyone?

Written on Overbey wins with strong showing in Sevier; Finney asking for recount:

Finney supporters continue to make themselves look foolish and show they have zero class. I'm sure that "poll" you took was scientific. Keep talking... because thankfully, Doug Overbey is our new state Senator and we are no longer the laughing stock of Nashville.

Written on State Senate, District 8:

I guess RightChoice is voting for Meares, because this is the same kind of junk they have tried to pull on David Duggan. Both Rep. Overbey and Judge Duggan are great men, with hearts for public service, and both deserve to be elected. Meares camp has tried to bring all these ridiculous and completely false allegations against Duggan because they are down big, and I guess Finney's team has seen something to tell them they are in trouble so they have resorted to the same tatics. It is very sad.

Written on Sen. Raymond Finney endorsed by National Rifle Association:

He was the only one at the Dept of Revenue working on it thought. Look at the Daily Times story from December.

And if you refuse to vote for two of our greatest Representatives because of that... well that just shows how disconnected Finney's camp really is.

Written on Candidates questioned:

Well let's also take a look at Finney's support, or lack thereof.
ARDA ROC PAC - Washington, DC
Stacey Campfield - Knoxville, TN
Cash America International - Fort Worth, TX
Concerned Automotive Retailers PAC - Nashville
Ind. Medicine's (Big Pharmacuetical Co's) PAC - Nashville
Nat'l Health Corp Pac - Nashville
Housing Industry PAC, Insurance and Financial Advisors PAC, National Health Corp PAC (Big Health Care Businesses), PAC-ABLE Tennessee, TN Anesthesiologists PAC, TN Chiropractic ASSN PAC, TN Dental PAC, TN Emergency Medicine PAC, TN FIRST, TN Forestry PAC, TN Health Care Assn PAC, Tennessee Hotel and Lodging PAC, TN Physical Therapy PAC, TN Radiologists PAC, as well as gifts from all over Tennessee.

And at least Overbey didn't introduce a bill just like the liberal Barbara Boxer from California introduced in the US Senate this year that the EPA said would raise gas prices 40 cents. Yeah, call Sen. Alexander or Sen. Corkers office and ask about the Boxer Bill. They will tell you themselves.

Oh and by the way, Finny has taken money during his term from:
Abbot Labs in Abbott Park, IL
Kevin Clayton, Chairman of Clayton Bank and Trust
James Haslam, Chairman of Pilot Oil Corp who AlwaysWrong up there refers to
Insurance Groups in Knoxville
Glaxosmithkline PAC from North Carolina
Health Care Lobbying Groups like TN Orthopaedic Society in Clemmons, NC.

And the biggest point here, is that on top of this, Ray Finney has loaned his campaign $230,000 dollars. That's a quarter million folks. How many people do you know who can do that? Obviously Doug Overbey cannot. I sure as heck know I cannot. I think he and his supporters need to quit playing victim and take an actual stand on his record; not attack Overbey for the exact same things Finney's camp does.

Written on State Senate, District 8:

Coal Bill = Bad for business. Which is why Finney was named one of the five worst legislators for business by a respected magazine.

Emissions Bill = Bad for fuel prices. It is the exact same kind of bill Republicans fought and defeated in the US Senate that was introduced by Barbara Boxer from California. The EPA said that bill would raise gas prices by 40 cents. And yet Finney acts like he doesn't know what Overbey is talking about.

And isn't everyone a little sick of this whole, big business, Republican establishment corruption non-sense. Finney supporters are acting just like Meares supporters. Which from the amount of Meares/Finney sign combos I've seen around, it is exactly who they probably are. Judge Duggan and Doug Overbey are two outstanding citizens in Blount County, who have worked tirelessly to do great things here and serve our community. And to act like they are somehow corrupt, after having no basis to claim that falsehood, is seriously wrong.

And as someone who wants to go to law school, I have serious problems with all the lawyer hate comments that are being flung around by Finney and his supporters. A lot of great people, including John Duncan, Lamar Alexander, most of our founding fathers including Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, have been to law school and practiced law. It is a well respected position and one that takes a lot of hard work to be accomplished at, and to disrespect every attorney in this county by generalizing them just because of their job is incredibly stupid. Doug Overbey is a great man, but more importantly he is a great legislator. And it takes more than being a good person, it takes someone who can actually enact meaningful conservative legislation and protect our schools; something Ray Finney has failed miserably at.

Written on ‘Half a Cent is Money Well Spent’:

Yeah a friend giving another close friend money for to help out his campaign is such a big conspiracy. Give me a break champ.

You still say nothing to take away from the fact that Ray Finney voted to take away funding of our schools and send it to other big cities. Mike Dalton and Jack Parton will tell you their schools suffer, while Sen. Finney refused to acknowledge what his vote meant and that it hurt us. It shows how truly out of touch he is with most of the people in Blount County.

Written on Political races heat up as forums showcase candidates:

Thanks and same to you, but I must insist on standing up for Overbey when I feel strongly about his election. But thanks to your work as well.

Written on Sen. Raymond Finney endorsed by National Rifle Association:

So you are saying that you will not vote for Joe McCord or Richard Montgomery either because they also voted for Naifeh. Voting for him did more good than voting against him would have done. No one complained when Doug and Joe made sure we got the funding for the new Pellissippe campus, despite budget shortfalls. No one complained when Doug had the ability to go to the Dept. of Revenue to insist and make sure that Kerosene used to heat homes was not taxed. Do you think people like Stacey Campfield can be that effective? It's very doubtful.

Written on Finney wants network to promote family-friendly legislation:

Finney said that in a mailer. Check those. And your first sentence makes no sense when you said I had resorted to name calling, which I did not. Well, I'll go ahead and let you in on the little secret that being a co-sponsor and not the prime sponsor of a bill means you will vote for it, but you literally do zero leg work on the bill. But both Overbey and Finney voted for HB1827 (the House Bill was substituted for the SB), which is the way they both should have voted. That's why I get tired of looking at "Doug Overbey wants to allow illegals to drive." When he does not.

And I also enjoy healthy debate, thanks.

Written on ‘Half a Cent is Money Well Spent’:

Thank Raymond Finney for his vote for BEP 2.0 that cost us. Now we have to look at raising our local sales tax, AND that doesn't even guarantee we won't have to raise property taxes as well. Thanks Ray

Written on Meares issues rebuttal press release to Black letter:

This race is so important, and it is vital we elect Duggan to this seat.

Written on Finney wants network to promote family-friendly legislation:

I never called you a liar or any other name. I said you were lying. That's a verb, not a noun. I see that about SB3430, and thats great, but what you don't realize and obviously can't understand is that it, SB3430, was an improvement over the current system (I.E. took privileges away from illegal immigrants) and that is why, Doug Overbey, Ron Ramsey, Bill Ketron, Joe McCord, Richard Montgomery, and Jason Mumpower (well known conservatives) vote for it. Is that clear enough?

Now, look at SB 1266 in 2001. This bill allowed illegal immigrants to have full driver licenses. Yes, licenses, not certificates. You see, a license allows someone to identify themselves and buy guns, buy alcohol, board planes like the 9/11 terrorists, etc... It was a terrible bill that Doug VOTED AGAINST. Please note, voted against.

So in 2004, SB3430 came along, and although Doug fought to have the entire law created by SB 1266 in 2001 repealed, the only thing that came for a vote was this. And although this still allowed illegals to get "driver certificates," it was an improvement because they were not full licenses and could not use them for anything but driving. That is why Doug Overbey, Ron Ramsey, and other conservatives voted for it, because a vote against would have left them worse off. Another example of how Doug puts his district ahead of his political ambitions, because we all see now how that vote could be spun around to say that Doug supports illegal immigration in the same decietful way Ray Finney is doing now.

In 2007, HB 1827 came up, which Doug fought for and helped pass, which took away any kind of certificate or license for anyone who could not prove citizenship. He VOTED FOR IT.

So therefore, saying he supports allowing illegals to drive and harm our children is a complete fabrication and a lie. The sad thing is, Ray Finney probably doesn't even understand this because he thinks the General Assembly didn't even exist before his election in 2004, so he failed to actually research a bill in the way that I have done.

Written on Political races heat up as forums showcase candidates:

Because the only time he is there is when they invite him for a legislative coffee and Doug and Joe come. Wow... really involved. And yes I am, but as a college student most of my charity work goes through my service organizations (service fraternity, college republicans, business fraternity) at school since I do not go to school in Maryville. However, I have the perfect example in my parents who are members of United Way, Kiwanis, Farm Bureau, and the list goes on. But I'm sorry, we don't have a website to copy and paste from. They are the main reason having them called, "Rah-Rah-Rah clubs," especially when I know the time and energy Doug put into those things, along with my parents, that I saw first hand.

Written on Sen. Raymond Finney endorsed by National Rifle Association:

He doesn't say it was a mistake, because a vote against Naifeh meant nothing when a vote for him meant that Doug would be able to pass conservative legislation in a Democratic House... something people like Finney (aka Stacey Campfield) do not do. In fact, I dont think Stacey Campfield passed one bill in the 105th. Wow, that really helped us conservatives out. Instead, Doug passed a bill limiting frivilous lawsuits, a bill that stopped waste in a government department, and bills keeping the taxes low for veterans. I, as a complete, pro-gun, pro-life conservative, would much rather have that over a Stacey Campfield. You see, Doug can still stand up to the liberal legislation that comes through there, and he does, so really he has every advantage over people like Campfield. Case in point: Doug cast the tie-breaking vote overruling Naifeh to bring SJR 127 to the floor. That isn't taking a stand against Naifeh for every pro-lifer out there? I think it is. We need conservatives who can stand with principle and at the same time respect every Tennessean enough to actually produce results... not just make political statements. Raymond Finney has no idea what it is like to work in the minority party... if he did, he would accomplish nothing most likely. I can only imagine what Doug could accomplish in the majority, and that's why we need to elect him on Aug. 7th.

Written on Sen. Raymond Finney endorsed by National Rifle Association:

I really have no idea how that is a response to anything he said RightChoice. Plus Finney was quoted in the Mtn Press as saying, "I regret that vote, if I could go back in time, I would change it to a no vote or vote present." So he needs to pick a position: Either it was bad and he made a very bad decision to vote for it or it didn't matter and he is extremely wrong for thinking that.

I think that saying things like "He is a man of honest integrity" and making that your argument for his election are a bit ridiculous. He may be a man of great integrity, but so are a lot of other people, and so is Doug Overbey. So really, this election is not about integrity or character, or even about a lot of the issues they agree about; it's about school funding, creating jobs, and being effective. And the choice is Doug Overbey

Written on Political races heat up as forums showcase candidates:

I think after reading that everyone will know that you are an idiot. My father for one, works as hard as anyone in this county, works more than 40 hours a week, and yet still finds time to do all those "Rah-Rah" clubs that Finney hates so much. So don't give me this about not having time, because if you care about our community, you make time. And I think everyone in the county that volunteers with Kiwanis and United Way will appreciate that one of Finney's staff members said that the majority of them just did it to get their name in the paper and to put it on their resume. Boy, they will love that. Learn some respect for those who give back to our community, and maybe actually try to do that yourself for once.

Written on Candidates questioned:

This debate showed who the real choice is... Doug Overbey. How could Ray Finney not even come out and explicitly say, "I am against an income tax." I don't appreciate that as a voter. And for the record, if you look on this website, it shows that Ray Finney said, "While he was out joining 'Rah-Rah-Rah' clubs, I was working hard at the hospital." I'm sure the folks over at United Way and Kiwanis appreciate that, Ray.

Written on LEAF environmental group honors Finney:

As important as our environment is, I think gas prices are a more pressing issue, and bills like SB0486 and SB3822 by Finney are going to hurt energy prices here in Tennessee. Thanks for being an liberal environmentalist Ray. A true conservative? Doubtful.

Written on Meares campaign BBQ Bash set for July 19:

I sure have been seeing a lot of "Elect Judge Meares" and "Re-elect Ray Finney" signs together in yards around town.

That sure does make me wonder. Especially since Finney claims he is the "ultimate conservative" despite far left environmental legislation and other liberal, anti-business policies.

Written on Finney wants network to promote family-friendly legislation:

I'm not sure if Larry even knows what a statesman is, but if you want a true statesman in the Senate, then you need to vote for Doug Overbey. A true statesman is a legislator who can stand for true conservative ideals while also working effectively with everyone in Nashville to help our state. A statesman is not someone who puts out empty conservative rhetoric then supports bills that hurt our economy and kill our education funding. It is someone who can back up what they say with bills passed helping veterans, children, the elderly and all Tennesseans. The true statesman in this race is Doug Overbey, not Raymond Finney. Comparing Finney to Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan is a bit ridiculous, especially since the man can literally work with no one (Republicans or Democrats) to do good for our great state.
