Young is assistant principal at Eagleton Middle School. His dad, Rick Young, is a teacher at William Blount High School.

That’s the attitude Regina Jennings carried with her when she enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1987, and that is the mindset she has as she became president of the Kiwanis Club of Maryville on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Jennings said she always had a desire to serve her country, and she finally got to the point where she didn’t want to ignore that desire anymore. “My theory is that you live life to the fullest every day,” said Jennings. “I don’t want to live in regret. I didn’t want to be 48 and have regrets that I didn’t serve my country, so I joined,” she says. “Fred Forster swore me in, and I’ll never forget it.”

“This is so corny, but when I learned the interview was with a bank investment department, my wife rented ‘Wall Street’ and I watched a young Charlie Sheen’s computer tell him that May 6 was his boss’s birthday. That’s my birthday so I took that as a sign the interview would go well. Sure enough, it did,” he said. “God blessed my life.

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/jun/29/andrea-carpenter-chatroom/?partner=RSS</link><description>It is no surprise Andrea Carpenter has spent 21 years showing people how to save money. Carpenter knew early she wouldn’t have a career convincing folks to borrow money.
“I was a management major and sign language and business minor and started working retail for the credit department. I ended up convincing more people not to take credit,” she says. “I realized I needed to help people with their finances because I tried to talk people out of loans. I knew then that giving loans was not my line of work.”

“I have a group of friends who always go to Bonnaroo, and we have fun. As I’ve gone now for seven years, I’ve gotten wiser,” she says. “The first year, I was in tent and took some Crispix. It was not well-planned. Now we take an RV and run a generator at night to have air conditioning. This year we had guest passes and artist’s credentials.”

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/may/25/john-d-cannon-chatroom/?partner=RSS</link><description>When John Cannon returned from serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Maryville had three red lights, two more than when he left.
The Veterans Bridge on Washington Street was new and drive-in theaters were growing in popularity.
But what stands out the most in Cannon’s mind is how veterans were treated here and around the country.
“People respected soldiers back then. When I went to church, several people invited me to go eat with them. You could put on the weight if you ate with all them,” he said. “About anywhere you went in the U.S., it was the same way if you were in uniform. We’d go through Detroit, and they’d let you go to ballgame free and buy you dinner.”

“I always said if I could buy any piece of property, it would Cades Cove, and I would put my house in the middle of it,” he says.
England, owner and manager of Whitt’s Barbecue in Alcoa, says he has always liked barbecue, especially Whitt’s Barbecue. “I’ve loved barbecue since I was old enough to know what it was,” he says.
