This prestigious award is to recognize Genny’s superior recruitment skills resulting in the sponsorship of 50 new members into the local club during her 31 years in Civitan.
  • KayLee Sloan won Best Student Actress at the 24 hour Knoxville Film Festival.
  • Marcus Miller finishes the first segment of the Spring Sprint Triathalon in Alcoa.
  • Maryville Little League 9/10-year-old All Stars were District 6 Champs for 2011 season. The girls won all but one game during pool play and won all of their district tournament games. After becoming District 6 champions, the team was sent to Gray, Tenn., to play at Daniel Boone High School for the Tennessee State Tournament for Little League. The girls played with heart, and placed second overall in the Tennessee State Little League Tournament.   • Rachel Harvey, daughter of Fran Goddard, of Maryville, and William Harvey, of Sweetwater, received her Ph.D. in anthropology on Aug. 6 from the University of Florida. Her dissertation, entitled “Tourism is Everyone’s Business: The Participants and Places of Township Tourism in Cape Town, South Africa” chronicles her fieldwork in South Africa in 2007-08. Harvey earned her bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in 2001 and her master’s in anthropology from the George Washington University in 2003. She currently resides in Kailua, Hawaii and works for the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Clinical Trial Network.
  • Sydni Elkins celebrates her 15th birthday with a Disney vacation.
