  • The Maryville Christian School high school basketball teams competed in the Smoky Mountain Christian Invitational Tournament in Pigeon Forge on February 19 and 20. The girls team won first place.   • The GFWC of Tennessee’s Spring Convention was held at the Downtown Knoxville Marriott on April 16-18. On Saturday, Della Gowan was installed as the 52nd president of the GFWC of Tennessee.
  • Doug Younce and Walter Ogle are pictured with their winning catch of 12.82 lbs during Tuesday Night Thunder at Louisville Point Park.
  • The Tuckaleechee Garden Club of Townsend met at the Tennessee Federation Garden Clubs’ headquarters at the Ivan Racheff House and Gardens in Knoxville for their April meeting.   • Geraldine E. Groover celebrated her 80th birthday in April with her great-granddaughter, Savannah K. Hubbard, who celebrated her third birthday. They both live in Friendsville.
  • At the March meeting of the General Henry Knox Chapter, U.S. Daughters of 1812, at the Orangery, the special guest was the State President Charlotte Reynolds from Crossville. The program, given by Katherine Prince, highlighted the many features of the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend.   • An Alcoa officer served warrants on two employees of The Dollar Tree in Alcoa as part of the MDA Lock-up. Manager Sam Tallet and cashier Sue Fagg raised their bail money while in lock up at Texas Roadhouse. All the money raised benefitted MDA.
