The boys of homeschool Troop 511, charted by Joshua Home Educators of Tennessee, decided to miss the annual Spring Camporee this year to volunteer their time and energy to do storm cleanup at several properties throughout Blount County. Most notably was Mentor Community Park in the town of Louisville. Together with Cub Pack 511, the boys put in a hard day’s work picking up fallen limbs, many of which were bigger around than the boys’ arms, sticks, twigs and leaves. By the end of the work day, the boys had amassed a pile that was 20 feet wide and 6 feet tall.

  • The General James Longstreet 954 Chapter of the Children of the Confederacy, sponsored by the Captain W.Y.C. Hannum 1881 UDC, commemorated Confederate History Month by placing flowers and Second National Flags on the graves of Confederate soldiers buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Singleton Station Road in Blount County.   • The Captain W.Y.C. Hannum 1881 Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, contributes to the Totes of Love project as part of the Benevolent Committee chaired by Mary Nell Clevenger. Debbie Owens of Maryville founded the non-profit ministry which helps foster children by providing them with suitcases, overnight bags, and hygiene items. Generous chapter members donated several new totes and about 30 Beanie Babies for the project at the April meeting. Pictured are Mary Nell Clevenger and Debbie Owens.
  • The General James Longstreet #954 Children of the Confederacy (CofC) commemorated April as Tennessee Confederate History month at Mt. Moriah Cemetery by placing wreaths on the Confederate graves there as well as presenting the Robert E. Lee Award to Debra Wilson, a member of the Captain W.Y.C. Hannum 1881 UDC.
