  • Making an effort to help in Restoration International Outreach network’s Haitian relief/rebuilding work are, from left, Clara Peals, Debbie Sloan, Mack Coulter, Tony Bell with REO East and Kay Lamuno. In February BCAR members donated several items to RIO’s missions teams headed to Haiti.
  • Bekah Dale Gardner visits McGhee Tyson Airport after cleanup from a winter snow storm with her dad Trevis. Bekah always asks about why Dad was at the airport whenever it snows, so she was treated to an up close visit to answer her questions.

  • The 13 & 14 year old Blount County Parks and Recreation Basketball Championship was held at Alcoa High School on Saturday. Going into the game the Red team had a record of 10-0 and the Blue team had a record of 9-1. An exciting game for fans ended with the Blue Team as champions and a final score of 30-25. The Blue team roster includes, back row, Daniel West, Brandon Fagg, Katlyn McLemore, Gannon Reindheart and Austin Parriss; Front row are Jared Helton, Marshall Knoll, John McLaughlin and Cole Bright.   • The Elizabeth Paxton Houston Society C.A.R., made Valentine’s for Veterans at the February meeting. These will be delivered to the Ben Atchley State Veterans’ Home in Knoxville.   • Greyson Hill enjoying a sunny day with Grandaddy Swafford’s goat, Billy. Greyson is the son of Nathan and Erin Hill, and the grandson of Rick and Jenny Swafford and Gaylon and Gail Hill.
  • Fifteen members of the Blount County Master Gardeners Association were recognized as Master Gardener Volunteer VIPs at the Feb. 11 meeting at the Farm Bureau office. To be recognized as a Master Gardener Volunteer VIP, a Certified Master Gardener must have participated with the volunteer program for a minimum of three years and provided dedicated and exceptional service for the program’s mission as determined by the Blount County UT Extension Agent John Wilson and the State Master Gardener Coordinator Beth Babbitt. UT Extension Agent John Wilson presented letters of commendation and recognition pins to the awardees.
