  • This photo was taken recently in Cades Cove along the Loop Road before reaching the Carter-Shields cabin. The mother bear, carrying her cub in her mouth, crossed the road and headed up the mountain toward North Carolina.
  • The 13 and 14 year old Blount County Parks and Recreation Basketball Championship was held on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Everett Recreation Center. The matchup was between the Green Team and the Blue Team. The Blue Team went on to defeat the Green Team 39-32. Both teams gave their best effort and provided lots of excitement for fans. The Blue Team roster includes: back row, Richie Koons, Michael Wilson, Daniel West; front row, Parker Pewitt, Seth Hodge, James Williams and Jared Helton; not pictured: Jacob Williams and Billy Lewellyn. The Blue Team was coached by Dan West and Terry Williams.
  • Mary Blount Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution presented the Outstanding American History Teacher award to Rob Kuban of Maryville Middle and the Outstanding American History Essay award to Samuel Alexander, also of Maryville Middle at the Annual Awards Tea.   • At the February Annual Awards Tea, the Mary Blount Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, recognized the winners of the Junior American Citizen contests. The students, all from Maryville Middle are pictured with their history teacher, Rob Kuban.   • Prospect Principal Jake Jones and Heritage High School’s FBLA President Brenna Barry show off the books collected for the new school, Prospect Elementary School. A total of 504 books were collected.
