President Elaine Russell and Registrar Debra Wilson, members of the Capt. W.Y.C. Hannum Chapter 1881 of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Maryville, TN, were on the road again in search of Confederate Ancestors and to honor their Southern Heritage. Their travels took them to the Georgia Archives in Morrow, Ga.; the Heard County Historical Center and Museum in Franklin County, Ga.; a visit with UDC members of the Admiral Semmes Chapter 57 in Auburn, Ala.; the Alabama Archives in Montgomery, and finally to the library at Samford University in Birmingham. While in Montgomery the travelers also visited the 1st White House of the Confederacy, Oakwood Cemetery and the gravesite of singer, Hank Williams.   • Mary Blount DAR presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to outstanding seniors from six area high schools at the Annual Awards Tea in February.   • Lisa Thomas is pictured with three handsome soldiers from Fort Benning, Ga. They came to help Kathy Orcutt of Hugs for Our Soldiers pick up and mail over 1,000 Christmas for a Soldier goody bags. They were sent to Afghanistan. Lisa Thomas Salon was an official drop off location. Lisa also received help from the Sam Davis Chapter of the Children of the Confederacy and Knoxville Chapter 89 United Daughters of the Confederacy.

  • Peg Moore, Jean Gregory and Betty Alein worked for two weeks on this puzzle with the help of two Maryville College students. The ladies plan to frame their puzzle art in purple and hang it up so everyone can enjoy. The three ladies are residents of Wellington Place in Maryville.
