  • Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Heritage High School students in Mrs. Beddingfield’s creative writing class hosted a poetry mixer with Mrs. Smiddy’s junior AP English class and members of the administration to celebrate the creation of their poetry journal “The Crier.” During the first four weeks of school, the students worked hard to create various types of poems ranging from structured poems such as the Tanka, Cinquain and Haiku to Ballads, Sonnets and Free Verse. Mrs. Smiddy’s AP English students, who are studying a unit on poetry analysis, analyzed and critiqued each one of the poems. During the presentation, some students recited famous poems and then each student read two of their favorite poems they wrote. Out of a class of only 14 students, seventy poems were included in their journal along with student created art work. Students are looking forward to entering some of their poems in the upcoming Roane State Academic Festival.
