  • Jennifer Houser and Jessica Boring represented Carpenter’s Middle School at the TMSAA Sectional Middle School track and field meet held at Oak Ridge High School recently. Jessica Boring, a seventh grader, competed in the 800 meter and 3200 meter events, finishing first in both races. Jennifer Houser, an eighth grader, competed in shot put, discus and 1600 meter events. She finished first, third and fourth respectively. Jessica was named girls distance runner MVP and Jennifer was named girls field events MVP for the meet. The Carpenters Middle School track and field team is coached by Libby Larson.   • The Cherokee U9 Sluggers won the recent GrandSlam Promotions Thunder Classic held in Knoxville. The Sluggers went 4-0 on their way to the Championship victory. Second row, from left, are Zane Duggan, John Broyles, Drew Crowder, Cade Bochtler, Jared Young, Wil Combs and Lucas Belknap.   • Drama S. Robeson, Ollie N. Ellison, Barbara H. Chesney and Judith Chaffin take part in placing a “Wreath of Remembrance” at Blount Mansion.
  • Girl Scout Troop #21112 spent the day gluing storm drain markers on the drains at Shannondale that said “Don’t Pollute, Drains to Water” for Earth Day.   • Rachel Branning loves her new baby brother, Wyatt. They are the children of Cindy and Greg Branning.
  • Members of the local Captain Thomas Carter Chapter and the Tennessee Society Colonial Dames 17th Century attended the 86th Annual Conference in April in Washington, D.C. Pictured at the tea held at the Society’s National Headquarters are Linda Harris, Shirley Hall, Charlotte Miller, Sandra Renzy of Virginia, Pat Boals, Aline Roberts, and hostess of the tea, Melissa Fischer. Members of the Colonial Dames 17th Century are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographic area of the present United States of America.
