Several students from Maryville Middle School received State Awards for Junior American Citizen projects at the recent DAR State Conference. Graysen McConnell received second place in the poster contest; Katie Carmichael was awarded first place for her photographic essay; and Rachel Satterfield received first place for her short story as well as honorable mention in the Southeastern Division.   • Will Hardiman enjoys a day at the zoo with his mom and a few of his closest friends.
  • Shawn Love, an eighth grader at Maryville Middle School, took home the title of MVP during the sectionals track and field meet. Love placed first in the 100 meter dash, 4x100 relay and the 4x200 relay.
  • After completing the regular season undefeated, the Maryville Middle School Boys soccer team won the season ending championship tournament in dominating fashion. Maryville Middle School fielded a varsity team of 20 eighth grade boys. The team competed in the Smoky Mountain Middle School Soccer League which has 1,900 players from 16 counties in East Tennessee. The Maryville Varsity team played in the top bracket of the league against the strongest teams in East Tennessee and finished the regular season undefeated.

  • Taking time out of SEC Days, the annual spring meeting of Southeastern Conference coaches are, from left, Josh Livingston, SEC commissioner Mike Slive, Matt Huling and executive associate SEC commissioner Mark Womack. Livingston and Huling make up the Maryville music duo Two Guys Two Guitars. The two performed during the recent Southeastern Conference coaches annual meeting in Destin.
  • Fran Whitehead is all smiles as she holds her great-grandson, Brayden Fox, at the Scoops and Salute celebration at Blount Memorial Hospital celebrating cancer survivors.
  • At the May meeting at the Orangery in Knoxville of the Captain Thomas Carter Chapter, Colonial Dames 17th Century, Dr. Ruth Heizer presented a program on researching, writing, and publishing a family history book. She used as a resource Bradfute Beginnings, a book she authored on her Bradfute ancestors. Pictured are Charlotte Miller, Shirley Hall and Dr. Ruth Heizer.
  • The 55+ Smoky Mountain Mama’s basketball team took home a gold medal in the recent Gatlinburg Golden Oldies Basketball tournament. The team consisted of Holly Connor, Edwina Burns, Cheryl Merritt, Sandy Perry and Neak Alexander.
