  • Five siblings of the Truman and Gertrude Blevins Best family recently celebrated those who were 80 years old and above. There were 12 children total, two deceased, with the 10 living in or near the Carpenter Community.

  • The Smoky Mountain Hotshots participated in the 2011 National Summer Senior Games in Texas in June. They finished with a silver medal and a record of 6-3.   • The State Society Daughters of Colonial Wars held the annual field trip meeting at Townsend in June.  After lunch at Miss Lily's Restaurant, the group toured the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.
