  • The Color Guard of the SCV Longstreet-Zollicoffer Camp #87 and the General James Longstreet #954 Children of the Confederacy, sponsored by the Captain W.Y.C. Hannum #1881 UDC Chapter in Maryville, participated in a Confederate Grave Marker Dedication Ceremony in Magnolia Cemetery on May 23rd.  The marker of Private William Farley, 25th Regiment, NC Infantry was dedicated by the UDC chapter and members of the Farley family.   • The 60+ Smoky Mountain Mama's basketball team took home a gold medal in the recent Gatlinburg Golden Oldies Basketball tournament. The team consisted of Janie Noah, coach Bill Millsaps, Jean Robinson, Pat McMahan, Johnnie Buckley and Shirley Millsaps.
  • The 70+ Smoky Mountain Mama's basketball team took home a gold medal in the recent Gatlinburg Golden Oldies Basketball tournament. The team consisted of coach Glenn Ballard, Peggy Ballard, Katherine Mahan, Marie Ledgerwood and Jo Cooper.
  • At the May Meeting at the Orangery in Knoxville, the General Henry Knox Chapter US Daughters of 1812, welcomed five new members. Pictured in front, from left, are Debra Wilson, Barbara Spence, Martha Kroll, Carol Norcross and Lynda Williams. In back are Ruth Weaver and Brenda McDonald. The US Daughters of 1812 consists of members who ancestors served in the period from the end of the Revolutionary War until 1815.

  • Pellissippi State Community College's Sixth Annual Swing Big for Students Golf Tournament played host to 39 teams, bettering last year's turnout by nine. The event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Pellissippi State Foundation. This year, $1,000 of the proceeds is being awarded to the recipient of the new Swing Big for Students Scholarship, designated for a Pellissippi State student in exercise science or sport management. The morning shotgun winning team was fielded by Suntrust. Team members, in alphabetical order: Brian Bailey, Eric Bailey, Kevin Walsh, Bob Wrather.
  • The Tuckaleechee Garden Club Yard of the Month for May was awarded to Wes and Rachelle Siegrist of Townsend. The beautiful yard features a multitude of hostas and seasonal perennials and annuals. The shade garden is an excellent example of the wide range of plants suitable for this type of garden spot. Pictured are, from left, Mo Pearson, Rachelle Siegrist and Wes Siegrist.
