The 1953 Townsend High School girls basketball team was recently inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame. Their record was 30 wins and 2 losses for the season. Team members were, front row, Vella Abbott, Patricia Stratton, Shirley McNiell, Betty Lawson, Alice Ann Rathbone, Bernice Stratton, Louise Teffeteller and Helen Russell. In the second row are manager Archie Rollen, Shirley Tipton, Jo Hall, Betty Ann Walker, Marcia Ownby, Yvonne Harris, Joann Ledbetter and coach Tom Boyd.

  • Jamerius Abuhania, 2, decided to go as Sponge Bob for Halloween this year. He is the son of Chasity Ledbetter.
  • Taking a moment for a photo during the Komen Race for the Cure in Knoxville are Michelle Fisher, University of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl and Angie Oxendine. Michelle and Angie were participants with Blount Memorial Hospital's race team.
  • Celebrating Veteran's Day at Maryville High School are Leroy Rogers, left, and Dr. Ken Hawkins, Maryville High School orchestra director.
