  • The 1953 Townsend High School girls basketball team was recently inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame. Their record was 30 wins and 2 losses for the season. Team members were, front row, Vella Abbott, Patricia Stratton, Shirley McNiell, Betty Lawson, Alice Ann Rathbone, Bernice Stratton, Louise Teffeteller and Helen Russell. In the second row are manager Archie Rollen, Shirley Tipton, Jo Hall, Betty Ann Walker, Marcia Ownby, Yvonne Harris, Joann Ledbetter and coach Tom Boyd.
