  • Eleven members of the Maryville-Alcoa Flying Dolphins swim team competed in the Atomic Kids Triathlon at Oak Ridge on Saturday, July 16. The Atomic Kids Triathlon, sponsored by the Oak Ridge Track Club, consists of a 200 meter swim, a 2 mile bike ride, and a 1 mile run.   • Melissa Nance, executive director for Friends of Literacy, joined an elite group of women Thursday night, Aug. 18, as she was chosen for one of six 2011 Tribute to Women awards by the YWCA of Knoxville. The announcement came at a gala event at the Bijou Theatre attended by more than 550 guests. Congratulating Melissa is Mick Reed, a Friends of Literacy board member. Tribute to Women began in 1985 and annually honors outstanding women for their contributions to community, equality, empowerment and being an agent for change.
  • Kevin, Cindy, Gage and Alexandra Montgomery enjoy a trip to Myrtle Beach.
