At the Spring District Meeting of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Tuckaleechee Garden Club of Townsend was awarded a Certificate of Excellence and First Place for the Chapter Scrapbook.   • Adra (Hill) Prows celebrated her 99th birthday on March 14 at Mizer Station Community Club with her family and friends.
  • Charlotte Medlin and her mother, Euretha Carter, found a new baby donkey born on the Medlin Farm while they were celebrating Charlotte’s birthday. The baby donkey weighed 35 pounds and was the mother’s first baby.
  • At the 100th State Council of the Tennessee Society of the US Daughters of 1812 held at the Knoxville Airport Hilton in March, the local General Henry Knox Chapter  served as one of the hostess chapters. Members of the General Henry Knox Chapter in attendance were, from left, Jacqueline Newman, Diana Flaherty, Barbara Spence, Alice Conlin, Patsy Ellis, Pat Reilly, Lynda Williams, Carolyn Templeton, Charlotte Reynolds, Glenn Rowell, Debra Wilson, Sandra Smith, Charlotte Miller, Madge Day, Martha Cummings, Gloria Hunt, Johnanna Sprague, Shirley Hall and Ruth Heizer.

  • The General James Longstreet Chapter, Children of the Confederacy, sponsored by the Maryville Captain W.Y.C. Hannum UDC,  placed a Memorial Wreath at  the graves of three Confederate Soldiers first marked by iron Southern Crosses over 100 years ago. The graves, located in historic Baker's Creek Cemetery in southern Blount County, were those of brothers James C. and George Howard and their brother-in-law Joseph McClain.   • A group of Independent Living Residents from Shannondale of Maryville recently enjoyed a bus trip to Townsend and lunch at Miss Lily's Cafe.   • The Moore family got together to celebrate their super 60s birthdays. They range in age from 60 to 66. Pictured from left are Johnny, Judy, Gerrae, Clay, Babbae and Vickie.
  • Nicholas Kelly, 3 months, is all smiles. He is the son of Chris and Samantha Vales and the  Grandson of Thomas and Sandra Vales of Maryville.
