  • The Elizabeth Paxton Houston Society Children of the American Revolution, sponsored by the Mary Blount DAR, attended the 57th Annual State Conference in March at Montgomery Bell State Park near Nashville. The Society won several awards, including that of one of the three top Societies in the state. Society President Cheyenne Miller was elected State Second Vice President for 2011-2012, and Charlotte J. Miller was elected Senior Second Vice President. Society vice president Dylan Moya’s essay on the US Flag won recognition. In the National Chaplain contest, Amber and Austin Hall were recognized for the prayers submitted.   • Local members of the Society Daughters of Colonial Wars in the State of Tennessee met at the Chattanooga Choo Choo for the spring meeting. The program, based on the Battle of Missionary Ridge, was given by Professor Steve Bartlett of the McCallie School for Boys. Pictured in front of the Choo Choo are Jacqueline Newman, Steve Bartlett, State President Ruth Heizer, Lynda Williams, Janie York, Bernice Nelson, Laura Bales, Patsy Ellis, Carolyn Jackson and Charlotte Miller.
  • Neighbors and friends from Crosswinds Subdivision joined together March 31-April 4 for an enjoyable bus trip to Washington, D.C., at the peak of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Their trip included a visit to Arlington Cemetery for the changing of the guard and viewing of the Confederate Dead Memorial. They enjoyed a walking tour around the White House, a visit to the national monuments and memorials, the National Cathedral, the Smithsonian Museums, and the Capitol. They also explored Mount Vernon.   • Congratulations to Crystal and James Radke of Maryville, who were married Feb. 4, 2011, by the Rev. John Conley, uncle of the bride. Crystal is the daughter of Randal and Martha Conley. James is the son of Kyle and Carol Bolinger. Crystal was escorted to the alter by her son, Silas Satterfield.
