Thirty-four rising eighth graders from Eagleton, Heritage, and Maryville Middle Schools participated in the eighth annual Youth Leadership Adventure Camp July 10-15 at Camp Wesley Woods sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Maryville. While at camp, the campers learned about various aspects of leadership and how to become better school and community leaders. With the help of Camp Wesley Woods counselors and resource staff, campers challenged themselves by rock climbing, zip-lining, hiking, and canoeing. Guest speakers, including State Sen. Doug Overbey, Brenda Sellers, Roger Murphy, Diana Lovelace (Maryville College), Tim Richardson, and Vincent Charlow discussed the importance of good leadership, character, and communication. The campers used their new leadership skills to plan service projects for their schools and community. Maryville Kiwanian Camp Director Randy Allen lauded these campers as “the best yet.”
