Alden Smith, who will celebrate his 100th birthday next month, was “crowned” as “King of Shannondale Retirement Center 2011.” The honor of “Queen” was bestowed on Jennie Bianconi, a retired nurse and Eucharistic Minister. Smith, who holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, has been a resident of Shannondale since 2002, shortly after the Retirement Center opened. Prior to that, he and his late wife Lois resided in Maryville. Bianconi, a graduate of Columbia University, and her husband Owen have called Shannondale ‘home’ since they moved here from his hometown of Nashville in January 2007. - Maryville, TN
