Shannondale of Maryville Retirement Center crowned their “King and Queen” at the Valentine’s Day Party on Monday, Feb. 14. Alden Smith, who will celebrate his 100th birthday next month, was “crowned” as “King of Shannondale Retirement Center 2011.” The honor of “Queen” was bestowed on Jennie Bianconi, a retired nurse and Eucharistic Minister. Smith, who holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, has been a resident of Shannondale since 2002, shortly after the Retirement Center opened. Prior to that, he and his late wife Lois resided in Maryville. Bianconi, a graduate of Columbia University, and her husband Owen have called Shannondale ‘home’ since they moved here from his hometown of Nashville in January 2007.
