DeAnna Lois Etchison, a sophomore at Maryville High School, celebrated her “Sweet Sixteen” birthday on Jan. 9 with a 1950s theme “Sock Hop” at Chilhowee Club, inviting a few of her close friends. In lieu of gifts, this giving individual asked for donations of non-perishable food to be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Knoxville. Her friends responded in such a positive way that a trunk full of food was given to those in need. DeAnna would like to challenge others to reach out to those in need and do the same this year during their personal birthday celebrations.
