The Maryville Captain W.Y.C. Hannum Chapter, UDC presented the chapter's first Military Service Award to Major Mary Ann Miller Bowery. She received the UDC Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal awarded to lineal descendants of a Confederate Soldier who also have served in military action overseas. Major Bowery, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, currently is the Brigade Judge Advocate for the Third Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX. She is a direct descendant of CSA Lt.
