Townsend resident Dr. Jay Frankel received the 2010 General H.H. Arnold Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Tennessee Section, on Nov. 17 at the University of Tennessee Space Institute in Tullahoma, Tenn. The inscription of the award reads: “In recognition of his outstanding contributions toward advancing the state of the art of the aerodynamics and astronautical sciences.” The award is the most prestigious award granted by the Tennessee Section. Dr. Frankel is a professor in the Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
