Donald L. Carter

Donald L. Carter, age 81, of Maryville went home to be with Jesus Sunday, June 5, 2011, at his home. Don had a wonderful life with a family that loved him dearly and will miss him greatly. Don retired after 54 years with the Bakersfield Californian Newspaper in Bakersfield, California, and served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. We loved him in life, honor him in death, and look forward to a reunion in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Zola O’Dell Carter. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joann Denton Carter; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Karen Carter and Ken and Laura Carter; grandchildren, Denny Carter, Autumn Carter, Brooke Carter, Michael Carter, Rhonda Smithson, and Brian Smith; was blessed with five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bill Carter and Donnie Cook. Special thanks to Blount Memorial Hospice, dear neighbors, and many family friends. A private graveside service and interment will be held Friday, June 10, 2011, at Grandview Cemetery.
