Sylvester Yates Pierce, Jr.

Sylvester Yates Pierce, Jr., age 83, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Army and flew for the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Pierce was an avid hunter and aviation enthusiast. He was a longtime employee of Piedmont Airlines and was known for his sense of humor. He was a devoted husband and loving Father who lived his life in faith and was a friend to many. One of the last of “The Greatest Generation”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Sr. and Nancy Pierce. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and Loving Wife of 64 years, Marjorie Lett Pierce; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Don Pierce, Doug and Laurie Pierce, and Andy and Carla Marie Pierce; Daughter & Son-in-law, Kathryn Cogar & Graham Walford; Grandchildren, Colin Cogar, Mary Fahringer, Ginny Crispen, Kristen Mary, and Anna, Kathryn, Samantha, and Amy Pierce; Great Grandson, Cole; Sisters, Cornelia Hasen of Memphis and Nancy Williams of Murfreesboro. A celebration of Mr. Pierce’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the Smith West Chapel with Pastor Darren Wigington officiating.
