James Perry Dalton

1948 - 2011

James Perry "Punky" Dalton, born December 31, 1948, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 10, 2011. He is going to be sadly missed by his family and an entire community of friends. Although gone too soon, Jim lived a full life and was known for his years playing ball, teaching school, coaching legacy, hobbies fishing, golfing, and traveling. He may be gone from this place, but he holds a place in the hearts of many.

Jim is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Chad, Megan Roberts and Josh Dalton; mother-in-law, Jewell Newman; brother-in-law, Chuck Newman and niece, Caitlin; his brother, Charles and sister-in-law, Geralene West; uncle, Virgil Dalton; aunts, Melda Donehew and Martha Perry; nephews, Scott and Dennis West and niece, Susie West. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gladys Dalton and brother, Bill West.

Jim lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Everett High. He earned college degrees at ETSU, Union College and TN Tech. He was an educator for more than 30 years in Blount County and Alcoa City Schools. His coaching career lasted thirty plus years also including being named TN High School Coach of the Year, Regional Coach of the Year, leading Alcoa High School to a State Championship in 1989 and was inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

There will be a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Green officiating. Friends may call at their convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
