Alvin Southwood, Jr.

1916 - 2011

Alvin Southwood, Jr., of Maryville, TN and formerly of Indianapolis, IN, born February 20, 1916 in Lamar, IN, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011, at Asbury Place, Maryville, TN. He worked for 40 years at Adding Machine Service and Sales in Indianapolis. He was in the Coast Guard during World War II, serving on an escort ship for a troop transport. Then, he served in an isolated outpost in Greenland observing enemy aircraft and weather that influenced military action in Europe. He was a faithful member of University Heights Christian Church until moving to Maryville in 2008 where he joined Monte Vista Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three children, June Ann Scales, John Southwood, and Evelyn Grace; sister, Anna Jean Gehring. He has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Mantooth officiating.

The interment will be in Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery, Santa Claus, IN at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7.
