Larry Edmund Hopkins

Larry Edmund Hopkins, age 74, of Maryville, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Larry was born in Guthrie Center, IA. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1979. He settled in Douglas, WY where he went to work at Phillips Petroleum Company until 1990. Larry and his wife Maria have spent their retirement years in Maryville, TN. Larry was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Everyone who knew Larry will remember his great gift of storytelling, his genuine smile, and his ability to make you laugh. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, bowler, and a supporter of all local sporting events. Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Edmund Hopkins; brothers, James and Dewayne Hopkins; and son, Ronald Dean Hopkins. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria Regina of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Susan Hopkins of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Monte Nelms of Casper, WY; granddaughters, Sheree, Jennifer, Tamara, Danielle, Samantha, and Kaitlyn; five great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Hopkins; sisters, Marjorie Petersen, Mary Lou Hoover, Clara Jo Harnack, and Donna Treon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Pastor Grant Rimback officiating. Inurnment service will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday at Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery in Knoxville.
