Beatrice Gilbert Britton

1924 - 2010

Beatrice (Bea) Gilbert Britton, born November 28, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts, went to be with the Lord March 7, 2010 after a long fight with several cancers. She was a long time resident of Florida who moved to Maryville, Tennessee in 2004. She was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her Husband of 56 years, George H. Raynard. She is survived by her Husband: Everett (Brit) Britton, of Maryville and her Sister: Doris E. Fisic of Venice, Florida; Sons: David D. Raynard of Maryville, Stephen M. Britton (Deborah) of North Wilkesboro, N.C. and Daughters: Gail Raynard Stamey (Bob) of Tallahassee, Florida, Kathryn A. Shaver (Al) of Maryville; four Grandchildren: Jennifer S. Foushee, Julie S. Jacobs, Alex Fine and Gwen Fine and five Great Grandchildren. She was the publisher/editor of several weekly newspapers in Pinellas County, Florida. Her love for journalism and interest in politics led her to seek and win a seat on the City Commission of Tarpon Springs in the early 1980’s, where she became Mayor Pro-Tempore in the latter part of the decade. There will be a Celebration of her Life, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 to be held at Union Grove UMC, Friendsville. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with The Celebration afterwards. Officiating will be Rev. Beecher Dunsmore and Rev. Al Shaver. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
