Influenza, or flu, season is here, and the Blount County Health Department is ready to offer the vaccine to area residents. A mass flu clinic for adults age 19 and over will be held at the Blount County Health Department on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Children under the age of 19 cannot be seen in this clinic however, you can call 865-983-4582 to schedule an appointment in our general clinic.
“It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so it’s a good idea to get the vaccine as soon as it’s available,” said Kathy Abbott, nursing supervisor. “However, we will continue to vaccinate residents through the winter, or as long as we have vaccine available. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get their yearly flu vaccine as soon as vaccines become available in their community.”
There will be a charge of $32 for the vaccine and the Health Department will accept cash, check, TNCARE and traditional Medicare that is not connected to a supplement.
