The first Pep Rally on the Patio of 2011 drew a restaurant full of Alcoa Tornado football players and their supporters to Puleo’s Grille.
Josh Stephens, Alcoa High School athletics director, said the turnout was proof of what makes the school special. The football team, coaches and a restaurant full of supporters were on hand for the pep rally on Aug. 18. Blount Today Sports Radio announcers Marty Millsaps and Heath Dunkel covered the pep rally live for ESPN Radio 1180, interviewing coaches and several members of the football team.
“Anytime we’ve got the Alcoa football team or any athletic team in Alcoa gathered for a rally, the whole community comes out. We had a great turnout,” said Stephens. “Everybody gets involved, and we’re fortunate to have such a close-knit community.”
Stephens said a big thanks went to Steve Puleo and the management and staff at the Alcoa restaurant for serving the athletes a great meal.
“Thanks to Puleos for what they do for our athletic department, not only in Alcoa but for everyone in Blount County,” Stephens said. “Our kids love to be able to come out, speak on the radio, relax a little, eat with each other and see some fans.”
