TSSAA rules WB’s Fuller ineligible

William Blount High School was notified by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association earlier this week that junior linebacker Trace Fuller is no longer eligible to play for the Governors football team, and the school must vacate its win over Knox Central two weeks ago.

Governor coach David Gregory said the state association phoned the school on Tuesday and informed William Blount officials that Fuller, who’d transferred from Maryville after playing for the Rebels in the Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic Jamboree last month, was retroactively ineligible for William Blount’s 9-0 win over Central and the victory is now vacated. During the phone call with TSSAA, Gregory said the association informed him it had received an anonymous email questioning Fuller’s residency.

“I can’t say a lot about it right now,” Gregory informed Blount Today on Thursday.

Gregory said the school will have no further comment until it receives an expected written notification from TSSAA. William Blount next hosts Jefferson County on Friday at Mike White Field at 7:30 p.m.
