Blount County commissioner Jerome Moon is set to become the new chair of the Blount County commission and commissioner Holden Lail will be the commission Pro Tempore.
Commissioners at the Sept. 6 Agenda meeting voted 18-0 (with 3 commissioners absent) to send the recommendation to the Sept. 15 commission meeting where they will vote to make the move official. Commissioners also approved a recommendation to keep Commissioner Gary Farmer as chair of the Agenda Committee and make Moon vice chair of the Agenda Committee.
Commissioner Tab Burkhalter was recommended by commissioners to be the new commission parliamentarian. Commissioners will vote on that recommendation at the Sept. 15 meeting.
Moon said each of the commissioners makes great sacrifices to be on commission. “Several other commissioners would probably be better as chair, but because of their work and day-to-day commitments, they can’t. I feel this is something I have the time to put toward, and I don’t mind doing it,” he said.
Commissioners Tonya Burchfield, Jim Folts and Monika Murrell were absent.
