The Helen Ross McNabb Center officially launches its new Blount County facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Monday, Sept. 12.

A ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. at the Blount County Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, 1704 E. Broadway Ave., Maryville. The open house will run from 4 to 6 p.m.

The community is invited to attend, take a tour of the new facility and learn about services provided by the Helen Ross McNabb Center in Blount County.

Helen Ross McNabb Center services in the 17-county area they serve got a boost in early August with their annual Russell Biven Summer Clayfest Tournament, held at Chilhowee Sportsman’s Club. on Aug. 12-13.

The clayfest tournament netted approximately $30,000 for Helen Ross McNabb Foundation, said Jerry Vagnier, vice president of Operations with Helen Ross McNabb Center.

“It was incredible,” said Vagnier. “It is probably $4,000 to $5,000 more than last year.”

The event drew between 225 and 250 shooters. Over the course of the two-day tournament, 45 teams competed.

Through this fundraiser, the McNabb Center is able to provide access to care for those in the community with the most severe, persistent mental illnesses who also have the least resources needed to pay for treatment.

Vagnier thanked the participants, committee members, volunteers and sponsors for making the event happen.
