Regional Leadership Association draws class to Blount County

For one day Myra Hair and Cindy Troyer got to walk in Leadership Blount Executive Director Katherine Caputo’s shoes.

Hair and Troyer, members of the East Tennessee Regional Leadership Association, are Leadership Blount alumni of the 2010 and 1999 classes, respectively. Caputo is the executive director of Leadership Blount, the organization that trains up and coming leaders in the community.

The East Tennessee Regional Leadership Association is made up of representatives from the counties surrounding Knoxville and each county has two representatives.

“East Tennessee Regional Leadership is little different from Leadership Blount because the actual classmates have to plan their days in their counties,” Caputo said. “Myra and Cindy were doing what I do for Leadership Blount. They planned a day in Blount County focused on health and wellness, and it was an awesome day. A lot of it was similar to what we do for Leadership Blount.”

Caputo said Hair and Troyer led the group on a tour at Clayton Homes where they learned about health and wellness initiatives for the employees. The class members did a health risk assessment and walked the Wonder Trail created by the Leadership Blount Class of 2010. They heard from Blount County Health Department director Micky Roberts, then spoke with United Way of Blount County president and CEO Michelle Hankes, traveled to Dentec to see a Blount County business related to health and walked a portion of the Greenway Trail with Maryville Alcoa Blount County Parks and Recreation.

“It was a lot of stuff to cover, and they did an awesome job,” Caputo said. “It was a super daym and I was impressed with the program Myra and Cindy put together. They planned this day in three weeks.”
