America’s favorite dude living in a pineapple under the sea is coming to Maryville.
On Saturday, National Fitness Center will host SpongeBob SquarePants, star of Nickelodeon’s hit animated series, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their Maryville location.
Courtney Colvin, director of children’s programs for National Fitness Center and Court South, says all families in Blount County are invited to bring their children to the event and do not have to be members of the health club in order to attend.
Colvin says SpongeBob has been invited to NFC in Maryville because, “As we think of summer, we think about water and fun. So what better person to kick-off this beautiful weather we have been having other than him?”
Children can have their picture taken with SpongeBob as well as play games, like “pin the pants on SpongeBob.” Anderson Rentals is providing a Bounce House. Kids can also make a Crabby Patty from the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob’s place of employment.
Colvin says the event is a Family Fun Day and a way for the new business to meet families in Blount County. “We want to say ‘hi’ to the community and give everyone a chance to see the facility.”
The children’s director said NFC is more than a fitness facility but a place that offers something for the whole family. Their Kids in Motion program is a membership for kids that offers classes like karate, dance, basketball and cheerleading. NFC also provides year-round swim lessons and a competitive swim team. This summer, they will offer week-long camps. The fitness center also hosts kids at the club for Parent’s Night Out once a month on Friday nights.
Colvin said the facility also offers opportunities for “the entire family to be active together.” She said the indoor pool and basketball courts are popular spots for kids and their parents.
In fact, Colvin said this Saturday’s SpongeBob event is geared toward children but, “adults seem to love him as well.”
