Betsy Cunningham got a sendoff she says she will remember a long time.
The outgoing Blount County human resources director said she was tickled by the turnout for the Feb. 16 reception at the Blount County Courthouse.
“It was awesome. I am amazed and continue to be amazed by the people in Blount County and just feel so overwhelmed by the love and gratitude expressed to me that day,” she said. “There were at least a couple hundred people who took the time to come.”
Friends and former colleagues wrote personal messages on 3-inch by 5-inch cards that went into a scrapbook. “There are note cards from so many, from Highway Superintendent Bill Dunlap to patrol deputies I worked with. There wasn’t enough room in the book,” Cunningham said. “That was overwhelming.”
Circuit Court Judge David Duggan spoke, and Kenneth Melton, chair of the commission, sponsored a resolution in her honor. “They surprised me by the public accolades, and I was really touched by that,” Cunningham said. “It is all about the employees. I continue to be amazed at the commitment of Blount County employees. They give and give and ask for very little in return.”
Cunningham’s husband, Charlie, and daughters, Becca and Bethany Foxx, were on hand to honor Betsy.
