New low-fare airline coming to McGhee Tyson

Frontier Airlines is coming to Knoxville.

The low-fare airline, which has a hub in Denver, has added a Knoxville-to-Denver route to the route map on its website.

Service is set to start June 7, according to the Frontier website.

Frontier is owned by Republic Airways Holdings, Inc., whose corporate headquarters are in Indianapolis. The airline is known for the animal images emblazoned on the tails of each airplane. According to the Frontier website, the “spokesanimals” represent the company's character, commitment to service - and humor. “Each airplane carries a unique spokesanimal from our ‘stable.’ We currently have more than 60 animals.”

Other low-fare carriers serving Knoxville include Allegiant Air and AirTran Airways and Vision Airlines, which recently announced plans to launch non-stop service to Destin, Fla., on March 25.
