Girl Scouts throughout Blount County enjoyed an evening of dancing with their dads and fun with their friends during the annual Father-Daughter dance Feb. 19 at the Capitol Theatre in Maryville.
Jennifer Cowan, leader of Brownie Troop 20113, said the event was very well attended at both the late afternoon and evening dances.
“It went wonderfully. We had about 340 at the first dance (for younger girls), and we had about 180 at the second dance. It was a tremendous turnout,” she said. “There were about 80 more people than at last year’s first dance, so that was a pretty significant increase. The second dance had about the same number of folks as last year.”
The troop leader said the Little River Service Unit of the Council of Southern Appalachians does the Father-Daughter Dance each year around Valentine’s Day. “The girls really look forward to it and get excited about getting dressed up and having one-on-one time with their dads,” she said. “It is a bonding experience for them.”
