The taste of Louisiana came to Maryville earlier this week when the Popeye’s Chicken restaurant opened on Foothills Mall Drive.
Located in the former A&W/Long John Silver restaurant building, the 2,000 square foot Popeye’s Chicken opened on Monday, Jan. 13. General manager is Lynn Headrick.
“We have a store in Sevierville that is one of the better Popeye’s stores, and it was well accepted there,” Headrick said. “We felt Maryville was a good location.”
Headrick said the restaurant has a full line of bone-in and boneless chicken, shrimp offerings and seasonal offerings that rotate with Popeyes’ corporate plan. “There are about 1,800 restaurants worldwide, so it is a pretty good sized outfit. As far as volume, Popeye’s is No. 2 as far as the volume of chicken sold,” he said. “They come up with several specials during the year from crawfish and shrimp and catfish to different chicken products.”
Headrick said the restaurant also has a website at www.smokycatering.com and while they do not do catering, the restaurant does do onsite prep for large orders. “We have chicken enough to feed 300 or 400 people. We do onsite prep for pick up here at the store. We’re prepared to do large volumes for people who are interested,” he said.
The store employees 32 people with three dedicated managers. The store is open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
