Michael’s arts and crafts store is coming to Alcoa and will open in Hamilton Crossing shopping center in the old Circuit City space later this summer, developer Jay Dunlap said.
Dunlap said the store has a little more than 20,000 square feet of space. “We turn over around June 27, and they’ll open in about a month,” Dunlap said.
The developer was pleased to have Michael’s at Hamilton Crossing. “We’re fortunate to get a good tenant to go back in there. We continue to have success leasing the smaller shops,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll have another small building coming out of the ground this summer. We continue to have good interest from national tenants.”
Alcoa City Manager Mark Johnson said that Michael’s has been in the planning stages for leasing the space for several months. “We’re fortunate to have them. They’re a pretty popular store. Michael’s is definitely a desired addition to Hamilton Crossing. It has been a successful chain,” Johnson said. “The key is, every dollar in retail we can keep on this side of the river ends up generating sales tax that will benefit whatever city it is in and all three schools systems.”
