There’s little David Lethco didn’t accomplish on a soccer field the last four seasons at Maryville College. Come this fall, the Rebel All-State forward is looking to do much the same at Maryville College.
The Maryville High scoring champion announced a verbal commitment to the Scots last month at the high school. During the 2011 season this spring, Lethco paced the Rebels to a series of firsts. He’s leaves a member of the first Maryville High team to receive a No. 1 state ranking and the first to secure a national ranking, 16th.
This spring, the Rebels became the first Maryville team to defeat state powerhouse Farragut, Lethco delivering three goals in a 6-0 Maryville rout.
“The ability to stay close to home was important,” Lethco said.
Lethco led the Rebels in goals scored again this season all while playing with a lot on his mind. Dr. Gary Lethco, David’s father, received a transplant in April after suffering a heart attack last September. Remarkably, his charge never let it affect his play, Maryville High coach Steve Feather said.
“It’s a huge, huge deal,” he said. “He had a heart transplant! The way David carried himself this season was unbelievable.”
