Courtyard by Marriott’s Meagan Bain honored by hotel industry

Fred Bullard needed a leader on his front desk at Courtyard by Marriott Alcoa and the general manager said he got just that in front desk manager Meagan Bain.

For her efforts, Bain recently was honored as the best in her field by hospitality industry members from throughout the region.

The Greater Knoxville Tourism Alliance presented the 2011 Pauly Awards to individuals and businesses for their outstanding achievements and commitment to the tourism industry at their annual luncheon on May 5, at the Knoxville Convention Center.

Bain, front desk manager with Courtyard by Marriott Alcoa was named the Lodging Employee of the Year.

Bullard, Courtyard Marriott general manager, said the front desk staff was lacking in direction and leadership until Bain was promoted. Bain has been with the hotel three and a half years.

“She took to hospitality like a duck to water, giving 110 percent all of the time,” Bullard said. “She has been outstanding from day one.”

Bullard said that under Bain’s leadership, and through an intense focus on retraining, employee accountability and empowerment, and with genuine care and consideration of the guests, the Guest Service scores at Courtyard Marriott have increased substantially and in some cases have hit the 100 percent mark.

The Pauly Awards are named in honor of Paul Sherbakoff, a leader for the tourism industry in Knoxville. Eligible Pauly Award winners are submitted for the Stars of the Industry state awards sponsored by the Tennessee Hospitality Association.
