Tax protest will be June 9 at courthouse

Citizens for Blount County’s Future will be leading a tax protest at the Blount County Courthouse from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9.

The Blount County Commission’s Agenda Workshop Meeting will begin at 6:30, and the commissioners will be discussing a property tax increase of 11 cents, from $2.04 to $2.15.

Linda King, group spokesperson, said “The citizens feel that the elected officials should be cutting their budgets instead of putting the burden on the people to cut their household budgets, especially in the economic climate we are experiencing.”
