The 38th annual Smoky Mountain Invitational swim meet is scheduled for this weekend at Springbrook Pool in Alcoa. The largest outdoor swim meet in the United States, the invitational for summer-only swimmers begins Saturday at 9 a.m. for competitors 11 years old and up. The meets concludes Sunday with 11-under competitors.
The Smoky Mountain Invitational routinely draws 1,500 participants to Springbrook Pool for the two days. The meet routinely draws 1,600 swimmers, representing 30 teams, and over 4,000 fans and volunteers for its two-day run. The Village Green swim team won last year’s event, with meet sponsor the Maryville/Alcoa Flying Dolphins seventh and the Green Meadow swim team 15th.
