The Shrimp Dock fresh seafood market is coming to Blount County.
Owners Phil and Becky Dangel hope to open their new store in the former Long John Silver restaurant on Calderwood Street by early November.
Phil Dangel said the building has about 2,500 square feet of space. “Customer space is going to be at least two-thirds of that square footage. “We serve sandwiches, do a Friday night fish fry and, of course, we’re a market,” Phil Dangel said.
Dangel said the restaurants will have six employees. Five will be full-time and one will be part-time, Dangel said.
“We’re returning to our roots. We see the Alcoa/Maryville market as very much a growing suburban community which is who we like to serve,” he said. “We’re a fresh fish market, and we provide fresh fish and fresh shrimp and other fresh seafood.”
Dangel and his wife own two other Shrimp Dock locations in Bearden and in Farragut. “We bring in fresh fish everyday, and we feel the Maryville and Alcoa customer is concerned with being healthy, and so fish is right up their alley,” Dangel said.
Dangel said seafood is perfect for grilling. “We’re going to offer at least 12 to 15 different kinds of fresh fish and five different sizes of shrimp,” Dangel said. “For those customers who shop in Farragut and Bearden, we’ll offer the same items, and we’ll experiment with a few new things in the Alcoa market.”
Dangel said he and his wife look forward to completing renovations and opening. “We’re excited and hope to be open by the first of November. We’ll do a major campaign announcing our coming so that everyone knows,” he said. “We’ve been looking at this market for a couple of years until we found the right location, and we think we’ve found it.”
