For folks gathered in the Grand Foyer of the Clayton Center for the Arts on New Year’s Eve, it was “An Evening of Effervescence” punctuated by a lively atmosphere, delicious food and the sounds of the Sentimental Journey Orchestra of Atlanta.
“An Evening of Effervescence,” was the theme for the first-ever New Year’s Eve celebration at the Clayton Center for the Arts. Executive director Robert Hutchens said those gathered had a memorable time.
“It was a nice evening,” Hutchens said. “People had a great time, the band was wonderful, the food was good, and the silent auction was popular and successful.”
The gala was a fundraiser for the Center to provide programming and service to the community. While a net total amount raised wasn’t available on Jan. 4, Hutchens said the silent auction netted about $1,500.
Between 65 and 75 people turned out for the event, which was about what Hutchens said he expected.
“Many people said next year would be even better. Once people hear about how well it went, they will want to come, too,” he said. “As far as the ambiance and the music and the food, I don’t think we could do any better. We just hope more people come next year -- the more, the merrier.”
The next event at the Clayton Center for the Arts will feature The American Spiritual Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Jan. 15 in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theater. Tickets range from $12 to $25 and are available at the Clayton Center for the Arts box office or by calling 865-981-8950.
