Green Meadow Relay event pairs fashions, basketball and food

For Debby Curtis, the Diamonds, Dunks and Dinner event at Green Meadow Country Club was a success in every way but one.

“The only thing we would have changed is the basketball game,” said the 2011 Relay for Life chair. “It would have been nice if Tennessee had pulled one out.”

Curtis said 60 people ate dinner but a total of about 75 turned out for the Relay fundraiser, which was sponsored by the Relay team at Green Meadow Country Club. The event offered something for everyone -- a fashion show for those into fashions or shopping for a Valentine’s Day present, the University of Tennessee and University of Florida Men’s basketball game on the television for the sports fans, vendors for everyone to shop with and a delicious dinner prepared by the club’s new chef.

“I thought it was fabulous. It was a really, really wonderful event. It was well attended, and everyone had fun,” she said.

Since it was Green Meadow Country Club’s team event, Curtis said she won’t know a grand total of how much was raised until expenses are settled.

The fashion show had a special twist -- many of the models were cancer survivors.

“Everyone was energetic during the fashion show. It was great to see so many of the models who were cancer survivors or who had personal connections to an individual who has struggled with cancer,” said Curtis. “They were very enthusiastic and really stepped high on the runway.”

The UT vs. Florida game also expended a lot of energy, and most were philosophical about the loss.

“While the fashion show was going on in the ball room, those who wanted more sports activities were in the lounge watching the University of Tennessee versus Florida basketball game.”

After the game and fashion show was over, dinner was served, then guests gathered in the ballroom.

“There were also beauty and fashion vendors who offered everything from jewelry and purses to pedicure and manicures,” said Curtis. “Those were available for folks to shop after the fashion show.”

Curtis said partners in the event included Chico’s in Tanger Five Oaks Outlet Mall, Rackets and Jackets, Old Navy in Alcoa, Duggan’s Menswear and Green Meadow pro shop.
