Five Rebels disciplined; will miss opener with Webb

Five Maryville High School football players won’t take the field when the Class 6A defending champion Rebels open the season against Webb School of Knoxville in the Airport Motor Mile Kickoff Classic on Saturday at Maryville’s Shields Stadium.

Starting senior defensive end Joseph Watson, junior linebacker Trace Fuller and two others were suspended this week by Maryville coach George Quarles for the opener with the Spartans for violating team rules. A fifth player, tackle Chase Starritt, was recently dismissed from the team.

Fuller, sources have told Blount Today, has since transferred to William Blount. There’s no word yet whether Fuller will be eligible for the Governors’ Friday season opener at Sevier County. The length of the suspension for the others is unknown.
